| BEAUREGARD TANNER "Bogey" Born: July 11, 2000 |
| Bogey is a big sweet, beautiful red and white Boston Terrier. He is slightly larger then what the BTCA standard calls for which is just under 15 lbs - 25 lbs. Bogey is a most stately, handsome Boston and draws attention where ever he goes. He has been trained in beginning obedience and has recently earned his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) award. Bogey is now 10 years old and is the head cowpoke at AZCowboyz, he keeps the little rustlers in line! Bogey has been neutered, as in our research have learned that he is not breed quality but still a most loyal and loving pet. When we lost sweet JJ we knew we needed another Boston not only for Jim and myself but for Bosley, our deaf Boston. Our search brought us to Bogey. Advertised as a "seal" Boston I was intrigued, I'd never heard of the color seal before! When we saw Bogey it was love at first sight, he was the most beautiful red color I'd ever seen! Well, later with more research I found that Bogey is a red and white Boston, not a correct seal and white Boston. With more research I learned to my horror I had adopted Bogey from a puppy broker, someone that buys entire litters from USDA licensed puppymills. Please, before you adopt a pet do your research, talk to the breeder, check on what health tests the parents have had. Build a good relationship with a breeder and make sure they are not breeding for the wrong reasons. The color "seal" which is an accepted color by the BTCA, appears black but when viewed in the sunlight it has a red under cast. Breeders of off colored Bostons are not ethical in their breeding practices and while the off colored Bostons make great pets, they should never be bred. I have yet to come across an off colored Boston that is breed worthy. Responsible breeders show their breeding stock and do all the BTCA recommended health testing before breeding their Bostons. The Conformation ring is where your dog is judged on structure and correctness and when finished becomes an AKC Champion of record. Don't be fooled by some of the registries that are popping up. They don't have the same stringent rules as the AKC. Only when your dog has achieved his/her championship of record are they deemed breed worthy. Please note: Bogey's wife Pebbles, although now at the Rainbow's Bridge, was spayed, making for a perfect relationship. Also note, that while spaying and neutering doesn't necessarily make for a healthier dog it does curb bad habits and urges! Proper, responsible breeding is not easy and many times with this breed requires a C-section. Deafness, stenotic nares, cleft pallets, hemi-vertebrae, brachycephalic syndrome, and luxating patella's are all issues that can run in this breed. So DO YOUR RESEACH when looking to adopt and always remember your local Boston Terrier Rescues! |
